2012 movie reviews

The movie 2012 was produced and displayed a fictional scene of the world coming to an end. However, what do the critics have to say. Dan Kois from the Washington Posted states the following: "If a film critic awards four stars to a movie directed by Roland Emmerich -- Hollywood's reigning king of catastrophe, the critically scorned director of "Independence Day" and "Godzilla" -- will the world come to an end? That's a question the ancient Mayans never asked, but it's the one facing me after the enormously satisfying, astonishingly accomplished, reprehensible-yet-irresistible "2012," the crowning achievement in Emmerich's long, profitable career as a destroyer of worlds." [http://www.washingtonpost.com/gog/movies/2012,1158595.html]

Elizabeth Weitzman had a different opinion. She claimed the movie had great special effects, yet she was not overwhelmed by the script. "The effects, it must be said, are awesome. And they'd better be, since they're the sole reason for the movie's existence. Granted, Cusack is enjoyable even when he's on autopilot, and Woody Harrelson has fun in his brief scenes as a prophetic madman. But everyone else sinks under the weight of inadvertently hilarious dialogue, and not one of the half-dozen threads makes actual sense.
Recruiting for the husky sports band

I wanted to throw out to any musicians that the SCSU Husky Sports band is looking for new memebers for the 2010-2011 year. For those who aren't familiar with the club we play all sorts of marching and pep band music at many of the football, basketball, and some hockey games. It's a real blast as we cheer and pump up the crowd with our amazing sound. Even the coaches have told us that the music encourages their team and they seem to play very well. On a side note we irritate the officials and visiting fans but who cares about them. We have also been fortunate enough to perform concerts both indoors and outdoors. Last season we had a Sounds of the Stadium concert with special guests from the MN Brass Drum and Bugle Corps. It was an awesome concert as it blew everyone away with the powerful sound. This last season we also released our newest CD which featured many songs like Get Ready for This, Funkytown, Yesterday, and much more. Anyone interested in a copy or more information on the band should contact director Glen Tuomalaa. We look forward to another great season and hope to see plenty of new faces

Well it's been interesting to say the least writting stories for these forums. I feel this was a great experience because i was able to be more open with my peers and share some very personal thoughts. Overall I feel like the forums have opened up better communication skills with everyone as well as learning about one another and finding some similarites and differences. I steered away from blogs because i did them last year in high school and had way to many issues posting them on webpages. To me the forums were much easier and was able to see many different topics, some unique ones as well as topics i also discussed that were similar. Thank you Professor Barton and hope you continue having students post forums in your cirriculum.

Cramming for finals

Well finals is upon us, and i know i am cramming for my final exams coming up. I don't know why i end up doing it, but it always happens. Generally when i crammed in high school i did just fine. However I forget that this is college and I'm almost 100 percent sure that this will be much different cramming for college exams. I'm currently struggling in two classes. Luckily one of them i don't have an exam for and instead am doing a portfolio so i'm probably safe there. However I have critical reasoning to study for, and for anyone who hasn't taken it yet it sucks or at least if you don't have a good professor teaching it. Well hopefully all goes well and don't have to take the class over again.

Bowling in July

For those who have followed my forums before I am a bowler and i've posted a few stories on bowling. Just thought i'd share with you about a big competition in July that sort of caps the whole bowling season. In July I will be heading to indianapolis to bowl in the Junior Olympic Gold Tournament where i'll be competing for 10,000 dollars in scholarship as well as competing to be a member of Team USA and compete in international tournaments around the globe. This will be my third time bowling this tournament and each year has been an improvement. This tournament pits the best bowlers in the nation on some of the toughest shots through an 18 game qualifier. It shows off the people who have dedicated a lot of time and preparation, as well as endurance over this course of time. This year i am hoping to make the semifinals which puts the top 150 bowlers in another 10 game qualifier to determine who bowls for the spots on Team USA.

Twins off to a fantastic start

This is by far one of the best starts the twins have had in years, they've won all but one series this season and are currently leading the division over detroit. With the addition of J.J. Hardy and Jim Thome the twins will have a pretty powerful lineup. Hardy is in a little slump currently but i'm sure he'll gain some momentum soon. With the addition of the new ballpark and an 8 year contract with the reigning MVP, I say the twins have a great chance of making if not winning the world series. So go MN Twins and do us proud this season!!!

Tonight on May 2nd i received a phone call from one of my grandmothers saying that my grandmother was not feeling well at all. We rushed over and immediately say that she was suffering a stroke. The paramedics rushed her to the hospital and later determined all we can do is pray for a full recovery. Today really made me think about how fortunate i am to have a grandmother like her. She does a lot for me and i've always repayed her as best as I can. To me it goes to show that you can never take things for granted especially when it comes to family. Appreciate the fact that you are lucky to have loving grandparents that are willing to do anything for you. Always tell them you love them and appreciate the things that they do. Of course at some point they are going to pass on, that's life. However I will say this, enjoy the time you have with them because you only get one grandparents once in a lifetime. Grandma I hope you recover, you are in my prayers and god bless you.

Iphone Or Droid?

For so long, the apple Iphone dominated the market for mobile communication device. It handled your email in a very slick way, provided a full scale internet browser for on the go googling and was also a place to take your music, videos and pictures on the go. Being that I own an apple Ipod touch, I can honestly say that my organizational life would be much more chaotic without it. I don’t use it for music really because it can only store 8 gigs, but it takes care of my emails, web surfing and the almighty facebook.

But recently, I have been considering just getting a new phone that will merge my Ipod touch and my phone into one device. Of course, for the longest time I figured I would just get the Iphone. But the terrible track record for AT&T has made me keep my distance. But now, the Android phone has hit the market place and is causing quite a scene.

Which brings us to the question at hand, which phone do we think is better? The Iphone, or a phone running the Android OS? From everything I have heard, both phones can pretty much do what the other can exactly the same, so I suppose that either choice will get the job done. One of the main things that made me consider the Android OS was because it was to support multiple programs at the same time, but recently, Apple has said that it will be releasing a new OS for the Iphone which will allow owners of the phone to run multiple applications as well.

So my question to you is, which phone would you get if you could have the choice between the Apple Iphone or a phone that is running the Android OS?

300 words

I am just wondering if the 300 word count is due for finals week too? I would love to continue writing to my peers, but to be honest I am still finding it very difficult to have much to respond to. I have noticed I am still currently the last one to post on the topics that I responded to last week :(. If people did respond after I did, they did not really carry on a communication from the previous posts. Yes, the initial question was answered about themselves, but nothing was written to show a line of communication that needs to be continued anymore. I really wish these forums would have been able to carry on more of a back and forth line of communication between students. Questions were answered, and that was nice. I just wish that more of the forums could have opened up endless conversations agreeing or disagreeing with people's previous comments more.
