Parties Here! (Snooki Voice)

Well, I guess this week I’m going to talk about one of my favorite shows, Jersey Shore, on MTV. I believe that I am only one out of hundreds of people on this campus who have a devout obsession to the show. Each and every week I anticipate Thursday night at 10 o’ clock, where I will be able to get fulfill my addiction. There are a couple reasons why I joined the band-wagon and started to watch the show. One of the main reasons is because the first time I watched it I basically fell in love with Nicole, aka Snooki. She’s like midget/smurf meets the most hilarious person I’ve ever seen. She’s a hoot. The other reason why I like it so much is not because of all the drama or because of all the alcohol they drink, but mostly because all of the roommates on the show say stuff that I have never heard any other human being say in my entire life. It’s like the funniest, most outrageous stuff comes out of their mouths. I wonder if that’s a trait of people from New Jersey and New York, or what? Although, one thing that bothers me about the show though is that I feel like they make it seem like it’s such a great thing when you have a one night stand with a girl and then never speak to her again. Do guys really do that? How can you just meet some random chick one night, take her home with you and do your business, and then send her on her way like nothing ever happened, like you never even met her? I find that a bit ridiculous. Besides that fact, the show is pretty much hilarious. P.S. Today is Thursday, that means it a Jersey Shore night!

Random Thought #3: Evolution vs. Creation

I know this can be quite a touchy subject but I thought that I would talk about it a little bit. I am not trying to persuade anyone anything, or try to tell you that your religion is false or try to debunk science. No, that is not my intended purpose. My purpose is purely discussion. I just thought that I should make that clear before I begin to rant. Anyways, I have always personally leaned in the favor of science, granted I am a fairly religious person too. I believe that there are plenty of signs that support evolution. Take fossils for example, a long time ago, animals of a certain species looked much different than they do today. They might have had different bone structures or external extremities or anatomies, etc. Evolution changed all that due to the location of the organism in the ecosystem. It very slowly changed its anatomy to better suit its habitat. Now, for those of you who support the idea of Creation, here's my bit for you. Simply put, Evolution is completely feasible. It could indeed have really happened. But, where did it all begin? Something had to be created for evolution to have begun. The universe had to be created somehow. So, I say that the long argument between Evolution and Creation should be put to an end. People should now consider the idea of what I like to call 'Crevolution."

Random Thought #1: Long Distance Relationships

Hello,
Today I was posting on a forum about long-distance relationships. From what everyone else was posting, most people (myself included) seemed to think that long-distance relationships can indeed work out quite well. I posted on the forum, commenting that it really does depend on the couple and how hard they try to be together through the thick and the thin. I have a girlfriend myself who is currently residing in Eden Prairie, MN and attending a Culinary Arts College. I consider this to be a long-distance relationship because I am currently in a dorm at Saint Cloud State University. I believe that we are quite happy together and that our relationships is progressing quite well. What are some of your thoughts on long-distance relationships? (If anyone is indeed reading this, I do not know)

A brief overview of Liberia culture

Liberia is a country located on the west coast of Africa. It is believed that the name comes from the English word “liberty” and referred to the nation’s origin as a colony of free blacks repatriated to Africa from the United States in the early nineteenth century. It is border by Guinea, Sierra Leona and cote d’lvoire. The official language is English but they have different dialect spoken by different tribe. Some of the dialect includes Kissi, Gola, which believe to be the oldest inhabitants. Liberia has been independent since 1847, making it the oldest republic in Africa. The capital is Monrovia which was named after the United States president James Monroe. The official national symbols reflect the American origin of the nation-state. The flag is a replica of the American flag, but with a single large white star on a blue field representing Liberia's long history as the "Lone Star," the only independent republic in Africa during the colonial period. The daily food is rice with any soup of their choice. Meat or fish is used as a garnish or ingredient in the sauce rather than being the focus of the meal. The Liberian culture consists of art, dance, music and literature. There are different songs that represent the culture and its people such include gospel, highlife, soul, and jazz. Marriage in Liberia is that of polygamous, where the husband can marry more than two wives. The bride moves to her husband's compound to live with his extended family. The main religion is Christianity, although some worship and serve the smaller gods. Liberia is an incredibly place to go for vacation, it is diverse and you can experience different cultures and languages. It is also a country rich with adventure and possibilities. So if you ever think of traveling to African try and visit Liberia, I bet you will not regret it.

this weekend

This weekend was another big and busy one. I had to help shingle my uncle’s house. It would not have been that big of deal besides dealing with the weather. We wanted to get a start on it Friday so we would not have to do as much on Saturday but it just kept raining off and on all day Friday. So my uncle and I just got all the material and tools we needed ready Friday night. I ended just staying over there so I would not have to drive back out in the morning, and my other uncle also came down from Little Falls and we just sat around talked and drank. Saturday morning we got up around six thirty a.m. and started getting the rest things ready like getting trailers in place to throw shingles in. At seven about seven more guys showed up to help. We had to deal with the wind and a mist of rain for part of the morning which sucked, but for the afternoon we just had to deal with the strong winds. By 8 the truck showed up with the shingles and we unloaded them up on the roof. By lunch time we had about a third of the house done. After lunch we went back up on the roof and started where we left off. By dinner time we had it all done beside the back side of the garage. After dinner we proceeded to got back up on the roof and finish the last sided of the roof that we had left. By eight p.m. we had that done and all we had to do Sunday was to cap the ridge. By eight thirty p.m. we had everything cleaned up and of the roof and had a drink or two to celebrate getting forty square of shingle on a house in 12 hours. Need less to say when a got home that night a was out cold in about 15 min after showering and didn’t get up till ten the next day, and I’m still sore and tired sitting here write this blog.

Last weekend a group of us went up north to our land to open it for the year and check everything over to make sure nothing broke over the winter. We have a three bedroom trailer house up there right now that we will be moving here in a week or so. We plan on building a 4 bedroom, two bath cabin in its place. We got up there late Friday so we didn’t get to work on anything that night. We got up around seven a.m. the next morning and had some bacon, eggs, and coffee. After we were done eating we started testing the water lines for leaks. This was the first year that we had no leaks to deal with. We then started working and the two lawn mowers we had with changing the oil and greasing everything on them up. Our big tractor for our field work had a dead battery so my dad ran to town and got one while we worked on the other tractors. When he got back put the new battery in and fired it up. While my uncle and dad where cutting the lawn I went with the big tractor and put the brush cutter on it and went and cut down all the old corn we left out in the fields for the deer so we could get ready to plow it under and plant new corn. I finished that around one then went in to eat some lunch. After lunch we went out and set some traps in the fields for pocket gophers. While we were doing that it started to rain on us so we headed back to the shed. We sat around and drank a couple of beers waiting for it to stop. It finally stopped after supper long enough for us to take the skirting off of the trailer to get it ready to move it to build our cabin. After that the rain picked up again and we got stuck inside the rest of the night. The next morning we got up and had breakfast, and then we went outside and disconnected the air conditioner from the trailer. After that we found the six tires underneath the trailer, and then pulled the tongue out to see what we need to hook that up to. Then we ended home and the was my first weekend up north.

anyone know where I can find a money tree?

I am leaving for England in less than three weeks and I have not saved up as much as I was hoping to for spending money. It is getting a little nerve racking, because when I am there I want to be able to do whatever I can. I will probably never get to do anything like this again, so I want to take full advantage of this experience. Getting ready for England has been pretty expensive. There is a lot of things I didn't realize I would need that have cost me a pretty penny. I am certain that studying abroad is a great thing for every student to do, but it can be very difficult getting funds for your trip. Banks are being very stingy right now and not handing out loans to just anyone. I needed two co-signers for my loan, so finally my fiancés' dad said he would just borrow me the money. I got really lucky with that or I wouldn't be going. I am dreading the paying back of my loans once school is up. I don't even want to know how much debt I am in, and for what, stressing myself out! Hopefully in the end school will really be worth it for me, but it is very hard to see right now! I feel like the expected thing or the norm is for every student to go to college after high school, even though it may not be for some students. I think college is a great opportunity for individuals to end up with a good job, but it is getting harder and harder for kids to be able to afford college and living all at the same time. I know when I had my apartment last year, I paid for everything myself; rent, food, college, gas, insurance, cell phone, etc. There are students I college, who’s parents pay for everything for them. I am envious of this, but at the same time I think it is only going to prepare me more for when I am out of school. Just have to tough it out now and accept that pain is compromise. Well wish me luck on my trip and I hope everyone has a great summer off!!!

Ready for Summer!!!!!!

Is anyone else around here ready for finals to be over and summer to be here?? I know I definitely am. I am ready for the stress of school, finals, projects, and group meetings to be over. I have 4 finals plus this short paper we have to write for this class. I am not too worried about them, except for my auditing final, which is cumulative and covers over 15 chapters. That is the final stressing me most, not to mention all 5 of my finals are Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday.

I am definitely looking forward to Wednesday around noon because I will be done with my 3rd year of school!!!! What a great feeling. I will then start packing up my room, which will be quite a process as I have a ton of stuff. I will then wait until my parents can drive up on Thursday morning and help me load the furniture from our apartment living room and bedroom. I will be moving to Willmar for the summer because I got an internship with Jennie-O in their accounting department. I am really looking forward to the move because I found a really nice, cute little apartment with everything we need. It is month by month leasing which worked out perfectly with the summer deal.

I do not have much to report this week because I have just been really busy finishing up projects, celebrating my 21st bday (wooohoooo), and studying for finals. I am a study machine right now, but am looking forward to NO STUDYING all summer. I hope I will get the chance to enjoy some twins games, camping, walking, biking, shopping, and much more. Summer is the best time of year that's for sure. Now, I will go study some more and wait for warm weather & finals to be over.

This will probably be my last blog, so good bye for now and I hope I haven't completely bored you to tears, but I probably have (sorry!). I hope everyone's finals go good and you have a great summer.

It is coming near the end of the semester, and that means that it is time to more out of the dorms. I think that moving everything out is almost harder then moving everything in. I thought it would have been easier trying to get everything together and ready to move out of the dorms then packing up and moving to them, but apparently I was wrong. I thought that since I would have everything in my little tiny dorm room, all I would have to do is pack up and go. But as I found out I actually gathered a lot of things through the course of being there. I also didn’t realize how hard it would be to try to clean up my room that my roommate and I have been living in. We gathered a lot of clutter and probably don’t vacuum and dust as much as we should. It is also hard to clean things up when we have so many things in the room such as the futon, microwave, fridge, etc. Our CA told us that the room needs to be spotless with no exceptions. Although packing everything up and trying to get everything out of our room is way more difficult than I thought it would be I had a very enjoyable time. It’s hard to believe that a year has already gone by, and I am already a fourth of the way done with my college career. Although I really enjoyed my time in the dorms and meeting new friends I decided that I will not be living in the dorms next year. I decided that I would rather live in an apartment where I could have my own bedroom and space. I think that the dorms were an awesome experience for me and I would do it again, but I am also really excited to be living in an apartment next year so I can go through a completely different experience!
